It has been a few years since the last Symphony Orchestra at Ellicott Mills, so we are very excited about the return of the full orchestra to EMMS!  This ensemble will perform at the highest level and showcase the instrumental skills of the EMMS students in a way that is not common at the middle-school level.

Here are some details:

  • The Symphony Orchestra will meet as an extracurricular ensemble before the normal school day begins on Tuesday and Thursday before school at 7 am.

  • Students may join the Symphony Orchestra if they play one of the following instruments:  Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bass Clarinet, Bassoon, Horn, Trumpet, Trombone, Tuba, Percussion, Violin, Viola, Cello, or Bass.

  • Most students will need to prepare an audition to be included in the group.  However, some students will be accepted into the symphony orchestra without the need to audition.  String Players in the String Orchestra will be automatically accepted into the Symphony Orchestra.  Wind and Percussion players in the Wind Ensemble will only need to audition if there are more students interested than can be placed in any one section.

  • The Symphony Orchestra will have at least two performances during the school year, in December and June.  They will also perform at Hershey Park in June.
